I extend my warmest wishes and unwavering support to the next generation of parade committee members who will carry the torch forward.
I am deeply grateful to the members of the New Haven community who have supported me and entrusted me with the incredible opportunity to serve as an organizer of the Elm City Freddy Fixer’s Parade. These past 10 years have been nothing short of exhilarating, filled with unforgettable experiences and heartwarming moments. Among them, what I will cherish most is the profound camaraderie shared with Diane Brown, a steadfast companion throughout our Freddy Fixer journey.
Back in 2015, Diane reached out to me, seeking assistance and drawing upon my experience coordinating the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Little did we know then that our collaboration would blossom into a powerful partnership, dedicated to revitalizing our historical roots and celebrating the vibrant spirit of Black activism. Together, we have worked tirelessly to showcase the boundless talents and entrepreneurial spirit of our Black community, as evidenced by the annual rhythmic parade procession down Dixwell Avenue.
Today, the parade has transformed into the Elm City Freddy Fixer Parade Weekend—a spectacular event brimming with excitement and cultural richness. This year's festivities promise to be extraordinary, featuring an annual award gala, the lively Dixwell Freddy Fixer Neighborhood Festival, the grand parade itself, and a delightful twilight wrap-up at a local flourishing Black-owned establishment.
I would be remiss if I didn't express my heartfelt gratitude to our first sponsor and founding emeritus, The Honorable Toni N. Harp, whose unwavering support has been instrumental since the inception of our journey. Additionally, I extend my deepest appreciation to the countless community members and sponsors who have joined us along the way. Your belief in our mission and dedication to our cause have been truly humbling.
As we reflect on our achievements, I am filled with immense pride knowing that our efforts have culminated in the establishment of the Elm City Freddy Fixer Parade Committee, Inc. (ECFFPC)—a testament to our commitment to ethical and effective management. To all who have contributed to our success, I offer my heartfelt thanks.
In closing, I extend my warmest wishes and unwavering support to the next generation of parade committee members who will carry the torch forward. As I step back to embrace the role of a spectator, I eagerly anticipate witnessing the parade's continued growth and impact for years to come. Together, we have created something truly remarkable, and I am profoundly grateful for the privilege to have been a part of it.
In honor of our rich and dynamic black heritage, Petisia M. Adger
